Thursday November 19th 12:01 am: Tonight the board of directors for the Medina Junior Basketball Association met to map out a strategy for the future.  We received over 70 responses from players, parents and fans.  I received many opinions and many new ideas on how to keep the league solvent.  I also received many responses in the negative about price increases.  I want to take this time to thank you all for your opinions and your ideas.  We read every e-mail and listened to every voice mail. Thank you all.

Thirty three years ago the MJBA was started because the school board called and asked us to start up a league.  We started that first year charging $10 and we had 45 players.  Last year we charged $65 had 450 players and gave away more scholarships then we had players the first year.  We also supplied tennis shoes for a small number of players.  Five years ago we purchased score boards for Claggett and four years ago we donated $8,000 to Claggett so they could purchase a new lighting system for the gym.  It's been a great run for the MJBA and I have been and I am proud to be part of this organization.  I have sat on the board of directors for Medina baseball, Medina and Euclid soccer and I believe the MJBA is the finest youth sports league I have ever encountered. Because I feel so strongly about the MJBA it breaks my heart to tell you that we have decided unanimously to cancel the 2010 season.   We agonized over this decision.  I believe the amount of money we would need to charge would leave behind to many players even if we went to a shortened practice season.  Speaking for myself I don't think I want to be part of an organization that would deny the ability to participate to 50 children because of there inability to pay.  So we are going to sit out this season and restructure for next year.  We will look for sponsors run a few fund raisers and prepare for 2011. 

The bottom line is the school levy failed.  I want to find a bad guy in all of this and I want to lash out at somebody but my heart is broken and I don't know who to blame.
