Please check out the Notes link for the latest registration information for the 2007 season. The Medina Junior Basketball Association began in 1982 for students attending Medina City Schools and was sanctioned by the Medina City School Board to provide and educational league to learn and play the sport of basketball. Medina Junior Basketball Association offers three (3) separate programs, Girls grades 7th to 10th , Boys grades 7th to 10th and Boys grades 9th to 10th . Sign-ups for these programs are held in late October to Mid November and are advertised in the Medina Gazette, announced in all the schools and will be advertised on this web site. All games and practices are held at A.I. Root or Claggett Middle Schools beginning in January and running to the end of March. Games are played on regular full court basketball courts and follow High School rules provided by the Ohio High School Athletic Association with exceptions of additional rules by the Medina Junior Basketball Association. Games are also officiated by two (2) referees, when ever possible, with the majority of our referees sanctioned as High School officials in the sport of basketball. It is our goal to maintain an equal balance between teams by assigning players to teams so that both average height and skill levels are obtained throughout each program. This ensures that each team is equal and one team does not dominate over another. This is accomplished with a program that was written for our league in 1992 and is still used to this date to structure teams. We also ensure that each team member will play an equal amount of time during scheduled games throughout our season. Our program also includes a Double elimination schedule to determine an over all winner at the end of our season and a All Star game with players chosen by their own team members. Since our beginning all members, Coordinators, Directors, Coaches and Assistant Coaches have volunteered their time to this organization. The Medina Junior Basketball Association is a non-profit private organization with funds used to provide player shirts, referees, court time and equipment. We are pleased to provide this program to our Medina City Students. Since 1982 our program has grown by the number of participants who have enjoyed playing the game or continued to grow their skills to ultimately play on both the Junior varsity or Varsity High School teams. We thank everyone who has participated in our growth and dedicated their time to provide this program to Medina City School students and we hope it will continue for many more years. |
